- Education and Early Career:
- He qualified as a doctor in 1992 and earned a further medical doctorate (MD) in 1996.
- While training in the UK in Diabetes & Endocrinology, he also got a PhD from Manchester University, supported by a prestigious grant from the British Heart Foundation.
- Specialist Work:
- Since finishing his specialist training in 2009, he's worked as a specialist consultant in diabetes and hormone disorders (Endocrinology) at several hospitals in the North West of England.
- In March 2024, he started working at Edge Hill University and Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
- Diabetes Advocacy and Leadership:
- In 2020, he was chosen as a "Clinical Champion" by Diabetes UK, a major diabetes charity, and continues to be involved with them.
- He leads services for diabetes in pregnant women and is involved in improving diabetes technology in Greater Manchester.
- Teaching and Training:
- He teaches medical students at Edge Hill University and trains other doctors specializing in diabetes and endocrinology in Manchester.
- He continues to teach healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives as well as patients.
- He leads professional development programmes of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists and is involved in the mentorship program of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
- He created a popular course that helped trainee doctors specialising in the field of Diabetes & Endocrinology to prepare for their final exams.
- He received a prestigious Quality and Governance fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh to continue his work on improving healthcare quality. He was elected by his peers to represent North West of England at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
- Research and Publications:
- He's led research and improvement projects and published medical journal articles.
- He's been invited to speak at conferences and events in the UK and internationally.
- He is an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Diabetes.
