Dr. Banerjee qualified in 1992 and obtained his MD degree in 1996. He furthered his medical training in the North-West of England and Wales. During his higher training, he completed his Ph.D. from Manchester University as a recipient of a very prestigious grant from the British Heart Foundation.
After completing his specialist training in 2009, he worked as a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust, and Wirral University Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust and Bolton Foundation NHS Trust before joining Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in March 2024. In 2020, he was selected as a Clinical Champion of Diabetes-UK and he continues to serves this excellent charity. He serves as a member of the Diabetes board and leads the Antenatal Diabetes service at the Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Network.
He is a Senior Lecturer and Lead tutor for Endocrinology at Edge Hill University Medical School. He is deeply involved in teaching and currently supervises and teaches Undergraduate medical students as well as Diabetes & Endocrine trainees in the Manchester area. Over the years, he has taught medical trainees, Primary Care physicians, nurses and patients in his field of Diabetes and Endocrinology as well as General Medicine. He is the joint lead for Professional Development of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists and a member of its Executive Committee. In this role, he spearheads the Consultant Development Programme and the Mentorship programme of the ABCD.
He has designed and run the UK's first course to help prepare the Specialist Registrars in Diabetes and Endocrinology for their Specialty Certificate Examination since 2009 and now attracts both UK and international attendees. He is a recipient of the prestigious fellowship of Royal College of Edinburgh, for improving Quality and Governance in healthcare.
He has led research projects, and quality improvement projects, and published peer-reviewed articles in various journals of Diabetes and Endocrinology. He has been invited to speak at meetings, conferences and institutes both within the UK and internationally, including in India, Egypt and Bahrain. He is an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Diabetes.
His hobbies include reading, cricket, traveling, and landscape photography.
He has been in private practice since 2018 and on the panel of all major insurers – being fee-assured and available for face-to-face as well as remote consultations. He has been assigned a Platinum status by the BUPA.
